As I said before, things have been going well for us here in Dallas. Cory's parents left yesterday after being here for a week. It just so happened that his Dad had a conference here so they were able to stay with us. They were a HUGE help in getting us settled into our house and putting things together..we would still be unpacking if it wasn't for them!! Mostly, we just unpacked and put the house together, but we also got to do a couple of "tourist" things while they were here. We went to the JFK museum downtown and to a few restaurants that we wanted to take them to. It was a ton of fun and we were super sad to see them go!
Dallas is a lot different than I expected. I don't mean that in a good or bad way, just different. Its definitely not the "south" like I'm used to...but so far I'm really loving being in a big city. Anything you ever want or need is right here and we will never be able to say that there is nothing to do!
Things we love about Dallas so far:
- That its a big city
- Its SUPER diverse...its so neat to see so many different cultures all in one area, and not separated by neighborhoods like most other cities are. My goal is to be fluent in Spanish before we leave :)
- The food. Due to the fact that its extremely diverse, there are tons of different types of foods to try. We're excited abut getting to try all of them!
- Always concerts/shows/things going on. We haven't been to any yet, but there will be plenty when we have the money to go :)
- The weather has been gorgeous! I know this will not always be the case, but for now its awesome!
- Texan drivers...I seriously wonder if any of these people actually had to take a driving test or if they are just given a license if they walk into the DMV.
- The fact that all of our friends and families are not here with us!
I don't think its actually hit me yet that we actually LIVE here. Despite being completely moved in, I still sort of feel like we're on vacation. Its probably gonna be a while until this actually feels like "home". Maybe after I get a job and Cory starts school...we'll see!
Church hunting has been fun. We've gone to two really great churches so far: The Village Church and First Baptist Dallas. We can tell that its going to be a hard decision to make but we are praying that God leads us to the one where we can serve the most! I'm excited about figuring that out and getting involved as soon as possible. All of the churches that we've been looking at seem to have a TON of ways that we can get involved!
As far as jobs go, Cory got a job at Panera! We are excited that we at least have some income coming in, but we are still praying that I get a job SOON so we would really love it if you would continue praying for that as well :)
Also, I just want to give an open invitation to all of our friends and family. If you are reading this right now, you are more than welcome to come visit us in Dallas at any time :) I'm serious about that. I hear that Southwest has a lot of cheap flights out here, so you should check that out ;)
Here are some pictures from the week:
My family helping us move out of Gainesville
Our new house! More pictures of the inside to come later...
The moving truck right before unpacking. It was a good thing it wasn't a centimeter smaller or our stuff would not have fit!
Riley helping Cory and his mom assemble a table
Cory and his dad putting our fence up!
Cory and I at Joe T. Garcia's in Fort Worth..a super yummy Mexican restaurant!
Downtown Dallas on a gorgeous afternoon
Cory and I at the Sixth Floor Museum. The guy who shot JFK did it from the square corner window (the one on the top right)
The "X" in the road is where JFK was shot for the second time, and it was the shot that ended up killing him.
Cory's parents on our walk in Uptown after seeing The Hunger Games!
We'll try to keep you updated as much as possible. Pictures of our house will be coming soon :)
Your house is beautiful! I'm glad everything is going well :)
